An exclusive range of compostable self-adhesive facestock.

Bio4Life offers an exclusive range of compostable self-adhesive facestock, including papers as well as bio-plastics. We make sure that our materials are mostly made from natural and renewable resources, so the ecological footprint is as small as possible. Our materials are fully certified to the European compost standard EN13432 for industrial composting and are approved for direct food contact.

Our compostable self-adhesive materials are available worldwide. For MOQs and product data sheets please consult the page ‘materials’.

Industrial composting

This type of composting is done inside an industrial composting facility. Within these facilities materials are composted under controlled physiological circumstances. This enables the materials to turn into compost withing 12 weeks with no toxic residues. Please note that industrial composting is not the same as home composting. The latter concerns a process where the circumstances (like humidity, temperature, etc.) are variable and unpredictable, like in your backyard. Our facestock may not be harmful to the environment due to its natural components, it is not (yet) certified for home composting.

Home composting

Home composting refers to the breakdown of organic materials in a domestic environment, such as in a garden compost bin or backyard compost heap. Unlike industrial composting, this process takes place under natural and often fluctuating conditions. Factors like temperature, humidity, and microbial activity vary throughout the year, which means that the composting rate is generally slower and less predictable. Materials that are certified as home compostable are specifically designed to decompose under these uncontrolled conditions, without leaving any harmful residues behind. While home composting provides an accessible and environmentally friendly way to recycle organic waste, it is important to note that not all biodegradable or even industrially compostable materials are suitable for this process. Only products carrying a recognized home compost certification can be reliably composted at home.

BioTAK adhesive

All our materials are coated with our proprietary BioTAK® adhesive formulations. Unlike patented technologies, our BioTAK® adhesives are based on unique, confidential formulations developed in-house. BioTAK® was the world’s first certified compostable adhesive designed specifically for labelling applications.

Our water-borne pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA’s) are based on specially modified acrylic co-polymers, offering a permanently tacky, high-performance bond with strong initial adhesion across a wide range of substrates. This enables truly compostable labelling solutions for many different applications.

We currently offer two certified BioTAK® adhesive types:

BioTAK® S100 – Certified to EN13432, suitable for industrial composting.

BioTAK® HC700 – Home compostable adhesive, ideal for applications requiring lower-temperature composting environments.

Both adhesive types are food-safe, fully compliant with FDA 175.105 regulations for direct food contact.

Compostable packaging

Bio4Life does not offer packaging materials other than self-adhesive facestock. For all sorts of compostable packaging we greatly recommend Bio4Pack (Germany based). Although our company names are similar, we are not associated.

Bio4Life exclusively supplies self-adhesive compostable facestock materials and does not provide other types of packaging. For certified compostable packaging solutions, we advise engaging with reputable packaging companies that specialize in fully certified compostable packaging. While our name may suggest a broader scope, Bio4Life operates independently and is not affiliated with any external packaging providers.
